Obama G20 Stimulus Financial Regulation Trade thru promotion green jobs

Obama Business Roundtable Obama outlined some of his priorities at the upcoming Group of 20 Summit in London, scheduled for early April. The administration has hinted that European countries will need to up the size of their stimulus packages. The decline in global demand is enormous, and now is the time for us to provide some balance, Obama noted. The second goal is a united approach on financial regulation, the president noted. The goal of an international approach would be to make sure that if we are doing some things that are increasing transparency, openness and trust on Wall Street that London is doing the same thing. This will ensure that regulation promotes a race to the top, not to the bottom. One of the things Obama will be looking for at the G-20 is action to discourage protectionism through a strong statement that encourages trade. In terms of what businesses can do to resist protectionism, Obama urged them to take action that encourages trade through the promotion of green jobs and ensuring that US goods are desired around the world. For the future of the US economy, Obama said that significant spending was needed in job creation, health care reform, and green technology. We cannot go back to endless cycles of bubble and bust, he said. We must build this recovery on a foundation that lasts. We cannot wait to build this foundation.
