Digital Cinema Fall ‘08: Keenon W’s Challenge 2

For my project, I decided to film a old metal horse wersquo;ve had in our living room for a long time. I was inspired by the myriad of textures and colors that made up the statue. I thought it would make a very interesting piece, and it did. My initial plan was to have a lot of sweeping, panning shots of different elements of the horse, but my tripod was not the greatest tripod in the world, and the shots were very jittery and did not flow well. Instead I cut in the beginnings and endings of every shot, so that I would have lsquo;live stillsrsquo; for my movie. I cut it to a slow song, but even with a slow song when you cut a bunch of pieces of colorfully diverse footage together, the eyes get tired. I decided to make it a little easier on the viewer by adding a fade through black on every shot, to give them time to process what they had just seen. I learned from this project about the importance of having a good tripod, and of planning ahead. Had I known before hand, and taken into account that my tripod would have ugly pans, I would have instead had a lot of footage of the metal with a bright reflection, and a dark shape moving across the reflection to add movement. As it was I did not do that, and my project suffered from it. You live and you learn.
