Le drame des 99 pendus de Tulle le 9 juin 1944
[Source : documentation France 3] Tulle s’apprête à commémorer aujourd'hui le 60ème anniversaire de la pendaison aux lampadaires et aux balcons de la ville de 99 hommes par les troupes SS de la division blindée Das Reich qui remontait vers la Normandie. Basée dans le Sud-Ouest depuis février 1944 et son retour du front russe, la division (18.000 hommes appuyés de blindés légers et chars) a pour ordre de lancer une répression violente contre les maquis de la région et la population civile. Le 8 juin au soir, un détachement entre dans Tulle pour secourir une garnison allemande attaquée depuis la veille par plusieurs centaines de Francs-Tireurs Partisans (FTP, proche du parti communiste). L'arrivée inattendue des renforts SS impose le repli aux maquisards. Prétextant de la mort d'une quarantaine de soldats allemands et invoquant un simple contrôle de papiers, les SS raflent tôt dans la matinée du 9 juin entre 3.000 et 4.000 habitants, hommes et adolescents. A partir de 09h00, un long tri commence. Un premier groupe - fonctionnaires, commerçants, médecins, employés des postes - est libéré. Le tri s'achève vers 16h00 et un haut-parleur annonce à la population les pendaisons. 99 civils innocents seront pendus aux balcons et aux lampadaires de la ville. Et le 10 juin, la division Das Reich commettra le massacre d'Oradour-sur-Glane où 642 hommes, femmes et enfants seront tués.
