Summer Recreation in Bismarck

A reason to "get outside and enjoy"... even in the middle of major flooding. The Missouri River remains in major flood stage hovering just above 19 feet. Yesterday, the U.S Army Corps of Engineers dropped releases from Garrison Dam to 140-thousand cfs... We won’t see the result of that decrease in Bismarck/Mandan for a couple days. But already some things are looking up. Bismarck Parks and Recreation Director Randy Bina says several of the parks predicted to flood, have stayed dry. He says while they are still battling groundwater at Clem Kelly and Cottonwood, both ball diamonds are open and ready to go. Bina says the warm weather has allowed many of the parks and trails to dry out... and out of 50 miles of trails that run through the city more than 40 miles are still open. (Randy Bina)"I think it's an exciting time people need to get away and recreate a little bit the quality of life we have in Bismarck is very high and we talk pride parks because people enjoy walking the trials and bird watching and other activities. It's just nice to see the green color." Bina says the nice weather is here just in time. Bismarck Mandan is hosting the 25th Annual Prairie Rose State games next weekend and all the parks will be in use.
