Parker House and Theory - Love Part 2 (Live)

This is a live video I shot and edited for Parker House and Theory, a great band from Boston. It was done using a single Canon 7D and edited to look like a multi-cam shoot. One of the drawbacks about the 7D is it’s lack of professional grade audio recording capabilities. That, combined with the fact there is only one input is the main reason you need an external device. I did this as a last minute kind of thing and I don’t currently own an audio recorder, so I figured I just drape my wireless lav in front of a speaker, set the levels as low as they go and just hope for the best with it running through the camera. Well, I must admit it is not a perfect recording, but I was very impressed at how the audio came out. As far as the video side of things go, I really struggled deciding which profile setting to use. I settled on the super-flat profile since it appeared to keep the most detail under the low-light conditions of the club. I figured I could correct any noise it might produce in post. I was happy with the decision. However, as of now, this video actually has no color correction/grading at all. It was shot all handheld at 3200 ISO using the Tamron 17-55mm f2.8 lens. The editing was fun. I ending up choosing the song “Love Part 2″ for the music video because the audio came out the cleanest (I moved my mic to another position a couple songs through the set for fear my levels were clipping), because they did a breakdown dance to it starting off the encore (giving me more footage to work with), and finally, Valentine’s Day was upon us. Again, this was a single camera shoot, so I just tried to find other shots from other songs throughout the show that I could convincingly ‘fake’ into the edit. Trying to sync it up and make sure there are no jump-cuts (or obvious ones, at least) was a challenge, but I enjoyed it.
