IPad 2: Will Sales Disprove the Reviews?

For the first day on the shelves, both online and in stores -- the company is expected to sell more than half a million tablets in the first weekend.“Three hundred thousand is how many iPads sold in the first 24 hours when the first one came out. Will the iPad 2 sell as fast? If you believe the web buzz, yes. Six thousand this weekend alone.” HLNAn analyst tells Business Insider …“Unlike last year, when Apple only had ~1,200 distribution channels through Apple stores and Best Buys, this year it will have over 10,000 channels through Target, Walmart, AT&T, and Verizon.”And in a sign of the iPad 2’s popularity - according to InformationWeek -- the online supply was tapped out hours after sales began.“Apple began accepting online orders placed through its Web site at 4 a.m. Eastern on Friday. When I checked at 6:30 a.m., the Web site said that iPad orders would ship within three to five days. By 8 a.m., Apple's website said new orders wouldn't ship for two to three weeks.”And The Wall Street Journal notes - some have called the second version of the iPad merely a - quote - “incremental upgrade.” Still - the Journal’s Roger Cheng says the buzz is just another demonstration of Apple’s power.“It also illustrates the strength of Apple's position in the emerging market for mobile computing devices, where eight out 10 tablets purchased in 2010 were iPads.
