A TripAdvisor™ TripWow slideshow of a travel blog to Halong Bay, Vietnam by TravelPod blogger Anslwithers titled "Beauty in the Bay" Anslwithers’s travel blog entry: "We have taken a trip with the people from Kangaroo Tours to Halong Bay - a picture postcard place of "about 1969" limestone karsts that rise up randomly out of the sea and fill up the bay. And jolly pretty they are too. We were a bit worried at first as we lunched surrounded by countless other boats (apparently there are 500 in the harbour) but we soon cruised out into the islands and lost sight of nearly everyone in our pleasant junk. We did this merrily for a couple of hours, taking rather a lot of photos and caught some rays (rare in the north of Vietnam at this time of year). We then went into the Surprising Cave. And it was. Very large with some funky lighting today, it was discovered by a French explorer back in 1902. We had a nice dinner on the boat, only interrupted by the captain informing us that our room (and the one next to it) was on fire. It was no major panic though, we finished the food while the smoke escaped and then moved our stuff across to another boat and slept there when the time came. Today was spent doing more cruising, more cave gazing and we then explored monkey island where there is a small, but apparently a bit vicious, pack of monkeys. Some Japanese tourists really pushed their luck but we stayed back, me with a trusty stick to beat them off with, should they take a fancy to our ...
