We traveled the Sterling Highway, which is the same road we used to get to Homer; however, when we reached the Kenai Spur, we were on virgin soil. Kenai is a larger burg than I anticipated. There is a Home Depot and a Lowe's here. Whoa! Our campground in on the Cook Inlet and it's beautiful. I wish we had more than one day here. After we got set up, Art got to work getting the halibut ready for the 6:00 fish fry. I went to the grocery store with Jean, Joyce and Nancy. Everyone needed something to contribute to the potluck. When we returned to the campground, I went for a walk and saw a lovely little Russion Orthodox Church, had a short conversation with the 80-year-old married archpriest, and headed to the beach. It was down a narrow dirt path and the hillside was blooming with fireweed. Spectacular! This beach had more sand than the last beach, which was mostly stones. The sand is a dark brown, but there are only tiny double shells. I gathered a few special rocks and noticed that it was nearly 5:30 and I had to put the Stouffer's macaroni and cheese in the microwave yet.
