アメリカの失業率が3カ月連続で上昇し、2010年12月以来、6カ月ぶりの高い水準まで悪化したことがわかった。オバマ大統領は、「アメリカ国民に必要な雇用と安定を与えるまでには、まだ長い道のりがあります。しかしわたしは、状況を改善できると信じています。どう対応するかは、わたしたち次第です」と述べた。アメリカの厚生労働省が8日に発表した6月の雇用統計によると、失業率は9.2%と、前の月に比べ0.1ポイント悪化し、3カ月連続で失業率が上昇した。景気動向を敏感に反映する非農業部門の就業者数は、前月比1万8,000人増にとどまり、市場予想の10万人を大きく下回った。雇用回復の遅れが鮮明になったことで、2012年の大統領選で再選を狙うオバマ大統領は、さらに難しい政権運営が迫られることになるとみられる。
