Twin 1 - 60fps to 30fps slow motion

I’m not sure if I'm an R/C hobbyist or amateur videographer. This all started with a homemade R/C plane and now I've been obsessed with getting decent slo-mo video from my Mac without spending a lot of money on software. Anyway, this is model 1 of the "Twins". The original video was from a GoPro HD (great camera!) recorded in 720p @ 60fps. Importing it to iMovie and "optimizing" it or letting iMovie "convert" it automatically drops every other frame to achieve 30fps before it allows you to slow it. But slowing the video from 30fps has an undesirable effect. So, I found JES Deinterlacer. Jes Deinterlacer allows you to convert your 720p60 video to 720p30, played at half speed without dropping any frames. The result is very decent slow motion video. Now I'm learning that converting compressed video from this format to that format and back again to whatever format is not a good thing. Each conversion sacrifices a bit of quality. I've been experimenting trying to get my GoPro video processed through Jes Deinterlacer and then into iMovie performing as few conversions or transcodings as possible. Here's what I've come up with so far: GoPro HD format compresses using H.264 codec into an MP4. Jes Deinterlacer converts this to YUV422 , its intermediate format. From there, I have many options within Jes Deinterlacer for compressing the output or no compression at all. Since I'm using iMovie, it would be best to have Jes Deinterlacer output iMovie's intermediate format. This way I can avoid an unnecessary transcoding step. I have both iMovie '09 and iMovie HD ('06). I prefer the latter and through trial and error, I've verified that an iMovie HD project using HDV 720p uses AIC as its intermediate format limited to 30fps, and if I have Jes Deinterlacer produce its output in this format I lose nothing importing it to iMovie.
