Jackc’s travel blog entry: "i found out about this island when doing a google search on "kitesurfing asia". turns out there is a kitesurfing school that's located on the island in a resort. and that resort happens to have a tiger zoo and an aquarium! nice added bonus! there is also a "kitesurfer" special room rate. i arrived at the airport at almost midnight. i thought there would be a hotel transfer van waiting for me. no such luck, must have miscommunicated with the hotel people. no worries, as there are plenty of taxis/vans waiting outside. what i didn't know was the "reasonable" rate for taking me to my resort. so at first this taxi guy quoted me bhat$1500. that's usd$37.5. hmmm, seems a little high. (i later found out that's an outrageous price for a shared van). so he noticed my doubts and lowered the price to bhat$1000, that's a 50% discount w/o me saying a word and i should have known that he's completely trying to cheat my money. i was too tired to bargain so i agreed to the price. so he got me to the resort, passing thru 2 "happening" towns. Chawang and Lamai. lots of bars and tons of go-go girls. very few tourists since this is the low season. i walked around the resort in the dark, no one's out. i sat by the beach alone. feeling the super fine soft sand, with the sea breeze. life's good, looking forward to the next 10 days!"
