Family Dollar Stores (FDO) posted fiscal fourth quarter earnings today that beat analyst expectations. Profits totaled $74 million, or $0.56 per share, compared to $60.1 million, or $0.43 per share, in the same quarters last year.

Gap (GPS) posted an expectations-beating second quarter profit last night of $234 million, or $0.36 per share, compare to $228 million, or $0.33 per share, in the same quarter last year. Sales rose 2%, to $3.32 billion, on same-store sales up 1% across all of its stores.

Sears Holdings (SHLD), parent to its namesake stores as well as Kmart, posted a narrower loss for the second quarter today, but missed analyst estimates. Sears said its loss totaled $39 million, or $0.35 per share, compared to $94 million, or $0.79 per share, in the same quarter last year.
