福島第1原発の事故を受け、「放射線」を学ぶ動きが教育現場で広がっている。「脱ゆとり教育」の一環として、30年ぶりに、2012年度から中学の理科で復活予定だった「放射線」。専門家による「出前授業」に、早くも注文が殺到している。茨城・東海村の「原子力科学館」には、福島第1原発の事故以来、関心が高まる中、栃木県の高校が見学に訪れた。ガラスの容器の中に、アルコールの蒸気が詰められた「霧箱」と呼ばれる装置。「霧箱」の中に現れる白い「線」は、目には見えないはずの放射線が通った跡で、頻繁に現れる細い線がβ(ベータ)線、たまに見える太く短いのがα(アルファ)線。自然の状態でも、身の回りには放射線が飛び交っている。見学に来た担任の先生は「学校でやるときは、たぶんドライアイスを入れて、冷やして、蒸気の中を通してるのかな? 軌跡が見える。小さいんでね、学校のやつは」と話した。生徒が、「普段から浴びてるなんて、知らなかった」、「結構な量ありますよね」と話すと、先生は「浴びてるわけだよな。これはすごいよね」と話した。見学に来た生徒は、「新しいこととか知れて、きょうは良かったです」、「まったく見方が変わりました」、「興味ないって言ったらあれですけど。まったく関心なくて、今まで」と話した。見学に来た担任の先生は「授業なんかで扱っていない部分も相当あるものですから。自分なりに、いろいろと勉強してもらえればと思って、ここに来ました」と話した。放射線への理解を深めようという授業は、13日、福島県の小学校でも行われた。授業を受ける児童は「次は放射線に関する、いろいろな授業をする。(どんな授業をやる?)どんなことだろう? 放射線の恐ろしさかな?」と話した。福島第1原発からおよそ31kmのところにある南相馬市立鹿島小学校では、放射線についての正しい知識を身につけてほしいと、専門家による「出前授業」を依頼した。最初の実験は、いわば即席の「霧箱」で、子どもたちは、自分で作った装置で、放射線を「見た」。専門家は「『放射線』と『放射能』は違うわけなんです。きょうは覚えておいてほしい」と話した。子どもたちは、その後、外に出て線量を計測した。体育館の外で子どもたちが計測すると、約0.5マイクロシーベルト(μSv)という数値が出た。体育館の周辺を計測している中で、子どもたちは、あることに気づいた。子どもたちは、「場所が10cmぐらい違うだけで、こんなに...
