FL Boys Inspirational Speech fights back against Bullies

0 of 5 Stars
iReport — Dylan Radley has been bullied since the beginning of the 4th grade at Collins Elementary, in Riverview FL. It may have been his glasses, maybe his dislike of sports and love of reading. It may have been the fact that he accelled where a few other students didn’t. Dylan endured shoves, kicks, being tackled on the playground at recess. Shoved and threatened in the lunchline. He did as he was told to deal with bullies, he told a teacher and his mom. Notes went back and forth from mom to the school, and his mom advised him to "ignore the kids, as they will get frustrated and leave him alone". But they didn't. And pretty soon, Dylan was always watching his back, dreading going to school. Then came the speech contest. Once Dylan got his topic of "Bullies in our Schools" approved by his teacher, and put his speech together. Everything seemed to change. He won 1st place for his classroom, then for his school, Now he was heading to regional semifinalson Jan.26th for Hillsborough county Florida, the 3rd largest county in the country. But Dylan woke the day of the regionals not feeling so well. Turns out he had 102 fever, double ear infection, laryngitis, and severe congestion. His mom called his teacher Mrs. Brown, to let her know he probably wasn't competing that night. While Dylan's Uncle was checking on him, he told him, "ya know, Tom Brady once played a championship game against the Steelers with a 104 fever, and won, you have a "Brady" jersey don't you?". That was all Dylan needed to hear. He sat up and put his Brady jersey on, and announced to his mom, "Mom, I am Definitely competing tonight!" "where's my medicine?" Dylan did compete that night, with fever and all, and he won 1st place again, sending to the final District competition Feb. 3rd at The Hillsbourough County School Board Auditorium. Where once again he won 1st place. The buzz about his speech was out. He was being congratulated at school instead of bullied. Writers came calling for interviews. ...
