Genie Francis on her Return to Daytime and the Future of Soaps

In a far cry from her "Laura Spencer" days, Genie Francis is back to the daytime soap circuit as bad-girl "Genevieve Atkinson" on CBS' "The Young and The Restless." The former "General Hospital" star reflects on the future of daytime soaps, and her decision to return to the small screen. Its been almost thirty years since Genie Francis wed "Luke" on "General Hospital" in a fairytale wedding that garnered the highest ratings in soap opera history, and Francis confesses she "had some misgivings about doing daytime again," but ultimately found the bad girl role appealing. In the continuing role that first aired May 27, Francis plays a mother returning to Genoa City in search of revenge for her son’s death."It was a chance to play a different type of character," she says, calling the role of Genevieve "a little sociopathic" because she's always "planning and scheming and setting things up."
