Mining equipment maker Joy Global (JOYG) posted a 34% increase in earnings for its fiscal second quarter today, to $162 million, or $1.52 per share, from $120.4 million, or $1.15 per share last year. Sales rose 19%, to $1.1 billion, as demand for the companys products stayed strong.

Video game maker THQ (THQI) slashed its outlook for its fiscal first quarter and full year 2011 Monday. The company said it is now looking for sales of $155 million to $165 million, translating to a loss of $0.20 to $0.30 per share in the first quarter.
