Senior Editor Tim Moynihan takes a real fast look at two new Canon PowerShots, the SD980 IS and the SD940 IS. The SD980 is the first point-and-shoot from Canon that features a touchscreen, and both cameras now include a mini-HDMI port, the ability to shoot 720p video, and image stabilization.

Panasonic’s DMC-GF1 is based on the Micro Four Thirds system standard, which means it has features similar to those of a digital SLR, but in a more compact size. The Micro Four Thirds standard allows for interchangeable lenses, but eliminates the need for the mirrors found in SLRs.

Sony announces a new, smaller PS3 known as the PS3 Slim, as well as a price drop to $299 for all PS3s. The announcement was made at the Gamescom Conference in Cologne, Germany. The Slim sports Wi-Fi, two USB ports, HDMI and optical outputs, and Blu-ray, as do its older and larger siblings.
