Two stray bullets from an overnight gun battle struck a south Sacramento apartment building, one hit a gas meter causing a gas leak, the other went through a wall just six inches away from a sleeping toddler.

Highway 99 is reopen near Nicolaus after a fatal crash overnight. CHP says the driver of a Ford Focus crossed the center line into the path of a big rig. The Ford driver died instantly. A passenger was air-lifted to a nearby hospital.
